Chilkur temple’s head priest Rangarajan attacked, one held
Hyderabad: CS Rangarajan, the head priest of popular Chilkur Balaji temple, was attacked by a group of individuals claiming to be descendents of Ikshwaku clan.
The incident occurred on Friday at the priest’s residence near to the temple in Moinabad mandal, Rangareddy district on Friday but surfaced on Sunday when Rangarajan approached the Moinabad police to file a complaint against the unidentified attackers.
The police said a group of men visited Rangarajan at his home and demanded him to lend his support to their “Ramarajya Sthapana” initiative. It is reported that they want to establish their own version of 'Rama Rajya'. They tried to convince the head priest to join them in their cause. When they got a negative response from Rangarajan, they assaulted him and his son when he tried to rescue his father.
Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Moinabad police informed that they have detained a suspect in the case and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the attack.
BRS leader Dasoju Sravan Kumar has strongly reacted to the attack on the head priest. Describing Rangarajan as a “revered scholar and noble soul,” Dasoju said he believes in protecting spiritual values and upholding social justice and therefore deserves the “highest respect, not violence.” He also urged the Telangana police to take stringent action against the culprits.
Recently, Rangarajan was seen attending a Sufi Basant festival celebrated with fervour at the dargah of Hazrat Shaikhji Hali near historic Charminar. The dargah, popularly known as Urdu Shariff, was adorned with yellow flowers and colours to honour the tradition started at Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah in New Delhi around eight centuries ago.
