Hyderabad: In the wake of several tragic incidents where children have died after being left unattended in parked vehicles, the Cyberabad Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to take strict precautions. These incidents, they said, are entirely preventable if basic safety measures are followed consistently.

Police are asking all vehicle owners to make it a habit to inspect their car thoroughly before locking it. Both the front and back seats should be checked every time, without fail. This simple routine, “Look Before You Lock,” can prevent avoidable loss of life. Officials stressed that children should never be left alone in or around vehicles, not even for a few minutes. A moment of distraction can lead to irreversible tragedy.

Car keys should always be kept out of children's reach. Parents and caregivers must educate children that cars are not places to play or hide. Children need to understand that they should never enter a vehicle without an adult. When multiple adults are travelling with a child, it is important to clearly assign responsibility to one person, rather than assuming someone else has taken the child out of the car.

Authorities also recommend installing rear seat reminders or child detection systems that send alerts if someone is left behind in the vehicle. All parked cars should be locked, even when they are at home, and heavily tinted windows or black films should be avoided as they can prevent passersby from noticing a child inside.

The police have advised families to inform domestic helpers and other household members about these safety practices. In the event a child goes missing, checking inside and around vehicles should be a first step. People are also urged to be alert when they see children playing near parked vehicles, especially during hot weather.

The Cyberabad Police concluded the advisory with an appeal to the public to act without delay if they spot a child alone in a parked vehicle. They urged citizens to immediately alert emergency services, stressing that quick action in such situations can be the difference between life and death.
