Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi introduced the annual Budget of the GHMC of Rs 8,440 crore, for 2025-26 on Thursday. However, the BRS corporators protested it claiming it was passed without seeking their views on it. A few members also tore the copies of the civic budget into pieces.

Earlier in the day, the GHMC council meeting witnessed pandemonium as the opposition party’s corporators continued sloganeering while holding placards. They moved towards the Mayor’s podium to register their protest and when the Congress members tried to force them leave the well of the House, it led to scuffle between the corporators and it disrupted the proceedings. Subsequently, they were detained for refusing to leave the well of the House.

Meanwhile, the BRS working president KT Rama Rao has condemned the detention of the party's GHMC corporators. He alleged that the Congress government is allegedly suppressing the voices which question its decisions.

He said the party members were penalised for raising a voice over the paucity of funds for the development activities during the GHMC Governing Council meeting.

“Is it a crime to question why Hyderabad is being ignored?” KTR asked.

Criticising the removal of the BRS corporators from the House, former minister T Harish Rao said approving the budget without involving the party members is unacceptable. He also stated that, “suppressing public representatives who speak for the people is intolerable.”
