Chain snatcher arrested within 24 hours in Hyderabad
SR Nagar: The sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone team, Hyderabad and SR Nagar Police arrested a chain snatcher within 24 hours of the crime on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Gudimetla Gopinath alias Gopi, involved in chain snatching and has recovered a three thula gold chain. He lives in Habeeb Fathimanagar, Borabanda, Hyderabad.
According to the police, on Thursday evening at around 7:30, an unknown man snatched the 3 Tula Mangalsutra from behind the victim, a 64-year-old housewife, Alamuri Krishna Kumari, while she was returning from her evening walk near Eco Country Apartment.
The complaint further added that she was scared and received minor injuries on her neck due to a sudden attack from behind, and then fell on the road. The assailant fled on his two-wheeler, heading towards Sanath Nagar via Street No. 2.
Special team cracked the case
"Krishna Kumari screamed for help from nearby residents. She informed her husband, Bala Krishna, and daughter-in-law, Lalitha Kumari, about the incident via phone. The thief was described as wearing a dark shirt and a cap," said Hyderabad police in an official statement.
Based on the complaint, the SR Nagar police of Hyderabad booked a case under section 304 BNS against the accused.A special team was formed under the supervision of P.Venkataramana, Asst. Commissioner of Police, S.R. Nagar Division.
The police arrested the accused on Friday at 5 PM near Gurudwara, Ameerpet, recovered the stolen property intact, and seized the vehicle used for commission of offence and cell phone. The arrested accused was produced before the Court for judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
