Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., welcomed the return of Cathay Pacific, noting that the direct flight between Hyderabad and Hong Kong would boost business ties, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two regions. The resumption also brings additional belly cargo capacity, which will benefit industries in Hyderabad by facilitating the transport of time-sensitive products, such as perishables and courier services.

Rakesh Raicar, Cathay Pacific’s Regional General Manager for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa, stated that the resumed flights align with the airline’s strategy to expand in India. He added that Hyderabad's economic growth and rising demand for international travel make it a key market for the airline.

The resumed flights are operated by Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A330-300, which offers both Business and Economy cabins. The airline plans to increase its frequency to 43 return flights per week by September 1, 2025, including five weekly flights from Hyderabad.

Hyderabad, known for its growing technology sector, has seen an increase in outbound travel demand. The city’s strategic location and ongoing improvements to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport have helped boost its appeal as a long-haul travel destination. In 2024, the airport saw a 19% rise in passenger traffic, surpassing 25 million passengers.

Cathay Pacific’s return to Hyderabad also enhances its cargo services, offering businesses faster and more reliable logistics solutions. In addition to belly cargo on passenger flights, the airline operates up to 13 weekly freighter flights between Hong Kong and major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
