Cab driver turned drug peddler caught with 45 kg ganja
Hyderabad: The IS Sadan police and South East task force busted a ganja smuggling racket, arrested a peddler, and seized 45 kgs of ganja on Wednesday.
The arrested ganja peddler was identified as Janapala Harikrishna, alias Janapala Harikishan.
According to the police, at around 10 AM on Wednesday, on a tip-off, the sleuths of IS Sadan Police Station, along with the staff of the Commissioner's Task Force, South-East Zone team, Hyderabad, intercepted one Hyundai Verna car at IS Sadan Cross Road and apprehended one ganja peddler by the name of Janapala Harikrishna alias Janapala Harikishan, who is in possession of contraband, i.e., dry ganja, and seized 45 kgs of dry ganja.
Investigation revealed that he is a native of Peddakandukur, Yadagirigutta (M), Yadadri District, and is working as a cab driver. He purchased a second-hand Hyundai Verna car and has been using it for cab driving. With the help of Thunam Aravind, a resident of Ambedkar Colony, Mahabubabad District, who is his childhood friend and also a ganja peddler, he ventured into ganja smuggling.
“Thunam Aravind informed him that they could make huge profits by engaging in ganja transportation. Janapala Harikrishna followed Aravind's instructions and went to Mahabubabad. Then, they both drove to Kalimela, Odisha, in Harikrishna's Hyundai Verna. They met Sarath Kumar Sahu from Batagaon, Sambalpur, Odisha, and bought about 45 kilograms of ganja. They returned to Mahabubabad with the consignment. After returning, they waited for two days to find a buyer but were unsuccessful,” said the police.
Subsequently, Thunam Aravind instructed Harikrishna to store the ganja at his house in Peddakandukur, Yadagirigutta (M), Yadadri District until a buyer was found. On 25-06-2025, Thunam Aravind directed Janapala Harikrishna to transport the ganja to the Mangalhat area of Hyderabad city for sale. The police acted on a tip-off and stopped the vehicle at IS Sadan X Road in Hyderabad. They are from the IS Sadan Police Station. They arrested the driver and seized the ganja from the car.
Efforts are afoot to nab the other accused persons Sarath Kumar Sahu (Supplier) and Thunam Aravind (Peddler).
