Cab driver arrested in Hyderabad for injuring two policemen by ramming their vehicle
Hyderabad: Bowenpally Police arrested 25-year-old cab driver Nochina Sampath Kumar from Moula-Ali for attempting to murder two patrolling constables by deliberately ramming his car into their police vehicle on July 5, 2025.
Around 10:00 PM, while on Blue Colt duty, constables K. Chanti and L. Praveen approached a suspicious taxi parked on Dairy Farm Road. The accused was found engaging in indecent activity with a woman. To evade arrest, Sampath Kumar intentionally drove his car into the constables’ bike, seriously injuring Praveen’s leg and causing minor injuries to Chanti. The accused fled the scene.
Using CCTV footage and technical analysis, police identified and apprehended Sampath Kumar on July 8 near Dilsukhnagar Metro Station. The vehicle involved (TS07UM7908) and a OnePlus smartphone were seized. The car was leased through a ride-sharing platform’s fleet operator. Police say the accused acted violently to avoid legal and social repercussions.
In another incident, Sub-Inspector Rajeshwar (59), posted at Film Nagar Police Station, died after a speeding lorry collided with his car early Thursday near Cheriyal in Kandi mandal. Rajeshwar, a resident of Chanikyapuri Colony, Sangareddy, was returning home after duty at the Balkampet Bonalu Utsavalu. He succumbed to injuries at a private hospital. He joined the police as a constable in 1990 and is survived by his wife and two children. His body was sent to the government hospital in Sangareddy for postmortem. A case has been registered.
On April 7, Home Guard Simhachalam died after a lorry crashed into a traffic booth near Miyapur Metro Station. Two constables, Rajavardhan and Vijender, were injured. Simhachalam sustained fatal head injuries and died at a private hospital. Rajavardhan suffered fractures; Vijender had minor injuries. The officers were managing a no-entry zone when the lorry, carrying unloaded rice bags, rammed the booth near pillar 600.
