Hyderabad: BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded on Saturday that the Congress government fulfill its promise. She wants the government to implement the Kamareddy declaration, which promises 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs), before the local body elections. MLC Kavitha called for a ‘Rail Roko’ Protest on July 17. This protest wants to push the Central Government to get Presidential approval for bills. These bills will give 42% reservations for BCs.

Kavitha along with United Phule Front leaders(UPF) met BC Welfare Association national president R. Krishnaiah at his Vidya Nagar house to seek his support for the upcoming 'Rail Roko' protest on July 17. The agitation aims to pressure the Centre to grant presidential assent to the Telangana Assembly’s bill enhancing BC reservations to 42%.

"The Congress had assured 42% reservation for BCs in its Kamareddy declaration. Now, they must issue a GO and implement it before local body elections," Kavitha said. She accused the state and central governments of delaying the move, insisting that public pressure is the only way to secure BC rights.

The BRS leader emphasized that the July 17 Rail Roko protest is crucial to force the government’s hand. "The Centre claims the bill needs its approval, but the state must act first. Public movements are the only solution," she said.

Krishnaiah backed Kavitha’s demand, stating, "BCs have faced injustice for 75 years. If we don’t fight now, even existing reservations may shrink." He urged all political parties and BC associations to come together for the cause.

Krishnaiah cautioned against using the issue for political gain. He said, "BCs must support those who are genuinely fighting for their rights." He promised complete support for the protest and described it as a historic struggle for social justice.
