Telangana Assembly: BRS MLAs stage walk out over Sarpanch issue

Hyderabad: Hours after the winter session of the Telangana Assembly reconvened on Monday, the Opposition BRS MLAs staged a protest against the Congress government and walked out of the Assembly claiming the treasury benches failed to give a satisfactory reply on the issue of pending bills of former Sarpanches in the state. The BRS members raised slogans against the government over the treatment of Lagcherla farmers.

Participating in the discussion in the House, the BRS leader T. Harish Rao said Minister of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Danasari Anasuya, also known as Seethakka, was misleading the House on the issue of the pending bills. He also demanded a timeline on clearing the pending bills.

Minister of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Seethakka criticized the BRS for politicizing the issues of pending Sarpanch bills.

“This is not our doing. We inherited the pending Sarpanch bills issue from the BRS. The issue has been pending a resolution since 2014. Harish Rao did not resolve it earlier,” the minister told the House.

Earlier, raising the voice of the affected residents of Musi River, K Sambasiva Rao, CPI MLA representing Kothagudem constituency, moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly seeking a discussion on the demolitions along the river.

The CPI legislator sought to discuss the growing fear and anxiety among the residents who are being evacuated for the Musi Riverfront Development Project. He has also demanded a fair and just compensation package for the affected residents.

Meanwhile, Members of the Progressive Youth League [Pragathi Sheela Yuvajana Sangham] (PYL) attempted to besiege the Assembly demanding the Congress government to fill vacant posts in various departments. The police foiled their attempt and detained them. They were bundled into a police van waiting in front of the Assembly and shifted to a police station.
