BRS ready for local body polls, KTR predicts Congress defeat
HYDERABAD: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is fully prepared for the upcoming local body elections and is confident of a strong performance, declared party working president K. T. Rama Rao. Addressing party workers at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, he said the Congress government had lost public trust and was headed for defeat across the state.
Welcoming senior Telugu Desam Party leader Pradeep Chowdhary from Jubilee Hills into the BRS fold under the leadership of MLC L. Ramana, KTR said the recently launched ‘Debt Card’ campaign would become the “Brahmastra” against the Revanth Reddy-led government. “The Congress hand symbol has turned into a hand of destruction for its own party. This Debt Card movement will highlight the government’s failure to deliver on its guarantees,” he said.
Sharp attack on Revanth Reddy
KTR mocked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s claims of building a “Future City,” comparing him to Nero, the Roman emperor who “fiddled while Rome burned.” He said: “Hyderabad is facing overflowing drains, uncollected garbage and dark streets, but the Chief Minister is busy giving hollow speeches about new cities. Those who cannot maintain the present city cannot build a future one.”
KTR pointed out that during K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure, 42 flyovers and underpasses were built in Hyderabad, while the current Congress regime “has not laid a single brick.”
Public anger rising
KTR alleged that farmers, women, youth, students and the elderly were all disillusioned with the Congress. He recalled that during earlier Congress governments, farmers had died in queues for fertilisers and said “the same tragic scenes are returning under Revanth Reddy’s misrule.”
He added that youth and students were upset over the unfulfilled promise of two lakh government jobs and scooties for girl students, while the elderly felt cheated as the ₹4,000 pension scheme had not been implemented.
KTR expressed confidence that the BRS would emerge stronger with leaders like Pradeep Chowdhary joining. He predicted a “bumper majority” for the party’s candidate in the forthcoming Jubilee Hills by-election, citing development achieved under KCR’s leadership.
KCR’s legacy hailed
He praised former chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, stating: “If N. T. Rama Rao showcased Telugu pride across India, it was KCR who raised Telangana’s identity to Himalayan heights. He fought a 14-year battle for statehood and, through 10 years of governance, placed Telangana among the top-performing states.”
