BRS member Krishank seeks Telangana CM's protection for Trimulgherry Sports Ground
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) member Manne Krishank has raised concerns about the future of Trimulgherry Sports Ground, which has long been a hub for football in the city.
In a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Krishank pointed out the ground’s historical significance, noting that it has been associated with prominent footballers like Olympians Peter Thangaraj, D Kannan, T Balaraman, and former Indian football captain Victor Amalraj.
Krishank highlighted that in 1981, then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi issued a letter designating the ground as a "PLAYFIELD," preventing its use for construction. However, he expressed concern over a recent Gazette Notification issued by the Congress government, which proposes land acquisition that would reduce the ground by 3051 square yards, nearly half of its total area.
Krishank also referred to an incident in 2018, when the Army’s order to restrict civilian access to the ground sparked protests from locals. Their efforts led to the revocation of the order after appealing to military authorities.
In his post, Krishank questioned the logic behind the new land acquisition, pointing out that in a recent Cantonment Board meeting, both BJP MPs and Congress MLAs had agreed to reduce the width of a nearby road. He noted that the new notification proposes a 200-foot-wide road, which would take up a large portion of the ground.
Krishank urged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to explore alternative solutions to protect the Trimulgherry Sports Ground, highlighting its continued importance for local football development.
