Brotherhood Beyond Badges: 2009 Batch SIs raise Rs 26 lakh for fallen comrade's family
Hyderabad: When the sirens fell silent for Sub-Inspector M. Ashok, his batchmates showed their grief through a remarkable act of unity. In a moving display of brotherhood, over 1,100 police officers from the 2009 Batch of Sub-Inspectors (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) descended upon Narsapuram, not in uniform but as family, to stand by the kin of their fallen colleague.
Ashok, the SHO of Alamuru Police Station, tragically died in a road accident on June 26. He was on duty near Kodad with Constable Blesson Jeevon. What followed was a testament to a bond thicker than blood—a collective pledge to shield their own.
A Promise Honored
The officers from their 2009 Batch SIs Welfare Society gave Ashok’s widow a cheque for Rs 26 lakh. This amount came from small contributions made by batchmates from both states. His two sons, one a B.Tech freshman and the other in Class 9, were assured of unwavering support.
Later in the day, the officers also visited the hometown of Constable Blesson Jeevon at Alamuru and paid their tributes. His family was also provided with financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh.
Formed in 2020, the society has disbursed nearly Rs 2 crore to batchmates’ families during crises—deaths, illnesses, or emergencies. Their motto, "A small contribution from many can bring a big change," has now inspired similar initiatives across Telugu states’ police batches.
This gesture by the 2009 Batch has set a remarkable example of unity, brotherhood, and compassion within the police fraternity. Inspired by their initiative, many other batches across both Telugu states have also established similar welfare societies to support each other in times of need.
