Three friends kill businessman over rivalry in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: The Kukatpally Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Syed Shahed, a 26-year-old businessman from Borabanda.

The accused have been identified as Y Hanak alias Munna, son of Madhu, aged 25 years, a private employee and resident of Baba Sailani Nagar, Borabanda; Md Sajid, son of Md Dasthagir, aged 24 years, an AC technician and resident of Moula Ali; and Md Sameer Khan alias Dagad Sameer, son of Md Jameel Khan, aged 25 years, who is engaged in false ceiling work and resides in Borabanda. They have been remanded to judicial custody.

Syed Shahed, a resident of Pandith Nehru Nagar in Borabanda, was engaged in the cloth business. He was known to have a history of conflicts, including a recent rivalry with accused Sameer Khan. This dispute had been shared on social media by the deceased, according to police.

Investigators say the three accused, who were previously close to Shahed, planned to kill him to gain local dominance. On June 29, 2025, during the birthday celebration of a mutual friend named Pavan, they called Shahed to an open ground behind Dev Istana Homes in Prakash Nagar. After consuming alcohol, Md Sajid allegedly attacked Shahed with a broken bottle, while the others assaulted him with stones, resulting in his death.

Police recovered key evidence from the scene, including empty liquor bottles, blood-stained stones, and clothing belonging to the accused. Their mobile phones, believed to have been used for coordination, were also seized.

The case was investigated by a special team from Kukatpally Police Station under the guidance of senior officers. The timely efforts of the team led to the arrest of the accused and progress in the case.
