Traffic restrictions announced for Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu in Secunderabad
Hyderabad: The Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu Jatara will be held in Secunderabad from July 13 and continue until the early hours of July 15, 2025. Large crowds of devotees are expected to participate in the festivities, leading to significant traffic disruptions around the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple and surrounding areas within a two-kilometre radius.
Authorities have issued a traffic advisory warning of congestion near key junctions including Karbala Maidan, Ranigunj, Old PS Ramgopalpet, Paradise, CTO, Plaza, SBI X Road, YMCA X Roads, St. Johns Rotary, Sangeeth X Road, Patny X Road, Park Lane, Bata, Ghasmandi X Roads, Bible House, Ministers Road, and Rasoolpura.
Train passengers using Secunderabad Railway Station are advised to start early and use the entrance from Platform No. 10 via Chilkalguda. Access from the Platform No. 1 side is expected to be severely congested.
Several roads leading to the Mahankali Temple will be completely closed to all vehicular traffic from midnight of July 13 until 3:00 AM on July 15. These include roads from Tobacco Bazar and Hill Street, Subash Road from Bata X Roads to Rocha Bazar, the stretch from Adavaiah X Road, and the approach from General Bazar.
Traffic diversions will be in effect throughout the area. Vehicles and RTC buses heading from Karbala Maidan to Secunderabad Railway Station will be rerouted at Ranigunj X Roads towards Minister Road, Rasoolpura X Roads, PNT Flyover, HPS U-turn, CTO, SBI X Roads, YMCA X Roads, St. Johns Rotary, Sangeeth, and through Gopalapuram Lane to the station. RTC buses returning from the station to Tank Bund will pass through Chilkalguda X Road, Gandhi Hospital, Musheerabad X Road, Kavadiguda, and Marriott Hotel. Buses heading toward Tadban and Begumpet will use the Clock Tower, Patny X Roads, or YMCA X Road.
At Ghasmandi X Roads, traffic from Bible House towards Secunderabad Station or Trimulgherry will be diverted via Sajjanlal Street or Hill Street at Ranigunj. Vehicles approaching from SBI X Roads and Paradise towards Tank Bund will be diverted at Patny X Roads to Paradise, Minister Road, or Clock Tower. Traffic from Paradise to Bible House will be redirected at Patny towards SBI or Clock Tower. Similarly, vehicles from Clock Tower towards RP Road will be diverted at Patny towards SBI X Roads, Paradise, Minister Road, or Rasoolpura.
At Paradise X Roads, vehicles from CTO Junction heading towards M.G. Road will be diverted through Sindhi Colony, Minister Road, Ranigunj, and Karbala Maidan. Vehicles from Patny X Roads will be diverted at Paradise towards CTO Junction.
Passengers travelling to Secunderabad Railway Station from Punjagutta are advised to take the route via Khairatabad Junction, IMAX Rotary, Telugu Thalli Flyover, Lower Tank Bund, RTC X Road, Musheerabad X Road, Gandhi Hospital, Chilkalguda X Road, and enter through Platform No. 10. Return traffic from the station can follow the route through Old Gandhi X Road, Monda Market, Ghasmandi, Bible House, Karbala Maidan, and Tank Bund. Travellers are strongly advised to avoid the roads from the railway station towards Patny, Paradise, Begumpet, and Punjagutta, as they are likely to be heavily congested.
Parking arrangements have been made at various locations across Secunderabad for devotees. Vehicles arriving from St. Johns Rotary, Maredpally, and SBI will be allowed to park at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. Those coming from Sangeeth Signal and Clock Tower can use the Mahabub College grounds. Vehicles from the railway station side may park at the Old Jail Khana open area opposite Kalpatharu Jewelers on Station Road. Devotees arriving from Boiguda, Gandhinagar, Bible House, and Ghasmandi can use the premises of Islamia High School near the vegetable market on Ghasmandi Road. Vehicles from Ranigunj and Adavaiah X Roads may be parked at the Government Adavaiah Memorial High School.
Designated VIP parking will be at the Mahatma Gandhi Statue and Parsi School on M.G. Road. Devotees arriving from Nallagutta, Begumpet, Punjagutta, and Khairatabad may use parking spaces at Nallagutta GHMC Ground (Chuttalabasti) and Wesley College GHMC Ground. Vehicles from Begumpet, Rasoolpura, and Pattigadda can use the Swapnalok Complex. Additional parking is available at Taj Tristar Lane for those coming from St. Johns Rotary, Sweekar Upkar, and SBI, and at Belsons Taj Hotel Lane for vehicles from Anna Nagar, Balamrai, and the surrounding areas.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have urged the public to follow traffic regulations and cooperate with officers on duty to ensure a smooth and safe Bonalu celebration.
