Boiled eggs near drains, cockroach infestation found at Indian Durbar in Narayanaguda

The Telangana State Commissioner of Food Safety's Task Force conducted inspections at two restaurants in Hyderabad on February 3, 2025, finding multiple violations. Indian Durbar Restaurant in Narayanaguda was found to have food handlers working without aprons, boiled eggs stored near drains without covering, a severe cockroach infestation, and food items without preparation or use-by dates. Rotten vegetables, improperly stored sanitary items, missing pest control records and medical certificates, and the use of synthetic food colors were also noted. Expired food items, including masala powder, cumin powder, hazelnut syrup, peach syrup, and chili flakes, were discarded. Hotel Ashoka in Lakdikapul had an untidy kitchen, a foul smell, a cockroach infestation, rusty vessels, and synthetic food colors used in prepared items. Rotten brinjals and cauliflowers were discarded. Despite employing over 140 people, the hotel lacked a FoSTaC-trained supervisor. At Indian Durbar Restaurant, food handlers were found working without aprons in the kitchen. Boiled eggs were stored near drains without covering. A severe cockroach infestation was noted in the kitchen. Additionally, food items were found in the fridge without preparation and use-by dates.

The inspection revealed rotten tomatoes, green chilies, and carrots with fungal growth, which were discarded. Sanitary items were improperly stored with food in the storeroom. Pest control records and medical fitness certificates for food handlers were missing. The use of synthetic food colors was also observed.

Expired food items, including masala powder (3 packets), cumin powder (3.5 kg, October 2024), hazelnut syrup (September 2024), peach syrup (March 2024), and chili flakes (March 2024), were found and discarded.

Hotel Ashoka, Lakdikapul

Officials found the kitchen walls and floor to be untidy, and a foul smell was discovered at the Hotel Ashoka. A cockroach infestation was also observed. Rusty vessels were found in the kitchen and refrigerator. Synthetic food colors were used in prepared items, and rotten brinjals and cauliflowers were discarded.

Despite employing more than 140 people, the hotel did not have a FoSTaC-trained supervisor. Expired food items were found and discarded, including rosemary (September 2023) and curry-cut chicken (4 kg, January 2025). Water analysis reports were also unavailable.
