Barla Kunta Lake bio-enzyme drive in Gachibowli on April 26 to mark World Earth Day
Hyderabad: In celebration of World Earth Day 2025, the Dhruvansh Organization will host a Bio-Enzyme Drive on April 26, 2025, at Barla Kunta Lake in Gachibowli. The initiative, themed "Our Power, Our Planet," aims to collect 1000 liters of bio-enzyme for the restoration and maintenance of the lake.
The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with participants encouraged to bring their own homemade bio-enzyme. The bio-enzyme can be prepared by mixing 1 part jaggery, 3 parts vegetable peels, and 10 parts water. The mixture should be stored in an airtight plastic bottle in a shady area, with the lid opened every 2-3 days to release gas. The bio-enzyme will be ready for use in about one month.
Volunteers who contribute 100 liters or more of bio-enzyme will receive special gifts. Those interested in participating are asked to register in advance. For further details or inquiries, individuals can contact 8465034598.
Madhulika S. Chowdary, an environmental activist and founder of the Dhruvansh Organization, spoke to the Hyderabad Mail about the organization's ongoing efforts at Barla Kunta. "Dhruvansh adopted Barla Kunta in April 2024, and within a year, we have made significant strides in cleaning the lake, desilting its corners, and implementing treatment measures, such as floating wetlands, solar floating aerators, and the planting of 5,000 trees and medicinal plants," she said.
Madhulika Chowdary highlighted the importance of community involvement in sustaining the lake’s improvements. "This World Earth Day, we urge Hyderabad’s citizens to contribute to the restoration efforts by donating bio-enzyme. It’s an opportunity for everyone to play a part in keeping our water bodies clean and healthy," she added.
Earth Day, which is observed annually on April 22, aims to promote environmental protection. The global movement, which began in 1970, now involves millions of people across more than 193 countries.
