Phone tapping case: Former Additional SP Bhujanga Rao regular bail petition dismissed
Hyderabad: The Nampally court dismissed the regular bail petition of Nayini Bhujanga Rao, an accused in a phone tapping case that shook the state. However the court extended the interim bail and directed him to surrender before court on 11 November.
Bhujanga Rao first applied for interim bail, citing various heart-related ailments. The court granted the interim bail for 15 days on medical grounds and directed him to surrender on September 4, 2024. The petitioner has filed a petition seeking an extension of interim bail because he underwent Angioplasty and Stent Insertion Surgery on September 3, 2024, at a private hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad and is unable to surrender before the trial court. This medical procedure formed the basis for his second bail extension request.
Subsequently, the court extended the interim bail granted to Rao until the regular application was disposed. Later, the court allowed the extension of his interim bail until September 30, 2024. He is directed to surrender before the court on October 1, 2024. Now, the court extended the interim bail until 10 November 2024.
Regular bail rejected, Interim bail extended
The court observed that “As the Petitioner is already on interim bail and is a sick and infirm person who underwent Stent Implantation Surgery on 3 September 2024 and undergoing regular medical checkup and specialized supervision of the doctors and as the Petitioner is suffering from kidney issues, gastric problems, backache etc., this Court is of the view that while refusing the relief to grant regular bail to the Petitioner, it is a fit case where the interim bail can be extended for further period to enable the Petitioner to complete all his medical diagnostics and to approach proper forum for regular bail and such direction would meet the medical necessities of the Petitioner”.
The court disposed off the bail petition and rejected the Petitioner’s regular bail request. However, it extends the interim bail granted to the Petitioner till 10 November, 2024, considering his health and medical condition. He is directed to surrender before court on 11 November, 2024 at 10.30 A.M.
