Bharat Summit spending sparks political row in Telangana
Hyderabad: The Congress-led Telangana government’s expenditure of around Rs 30 crores on the Bharat Summit 2025 has triggered a political uproar in the state, with the opposition party Bharat Rastra Samithi (BRS) questioning the Congress party and terming the meeting as 'useless'.
According to the Right to Information(RTI) reply by Telangana Trade Promotion Corporation Limited, “The Government of Telangana has released a total amount of Rs 29.45 crores under the Bharat Summit Scheme to the bank account of the corporation." The disclosure came in response to RTI activist Kareem Ansari’s query.
Taking a dig at the same, K T Rama Rao, Bharat Rastra Samithi working president, took to social media, “Shameless Congress government keeps saying the state has no money to fulfil the 420 promises they made to the people of Telangana. But they have spent Rs 29.45 crores for a useless meeting of Rahul Gandhi called 'Bharat Summit'. What about the six guarantees that you had promised would be filled within 100 days, Rahul Gandhi. It is more than 600 days already (sic)."
Bharat Summit was held on April 25-26, 2025. The Telangana government, in collaboration with Samruddha Bharat Foundation, organized the event to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, which laid the foundation for the Non-Aligned Movement.
