Begumpet Railway Station gets Rs. 26.5 crore makeover; Inauguration soon
Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) today, May 19, 2025, presented the newly redeveloped railway stations at Begumpet, Karimnagar, and Warangal, completed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
At Begumpet station, Chief Public Relations Officer A. Sridhar and Divisional Commercial Manager Vishal briefed media representatives on the upgraded facilities. Sridhar noted that Begumpet station, a key hub in the Hyderabad twin city region, now offers enhanced amenities for both suburban and long-distance passengers. The redevelopment project, with a sanctioned cost of ₹26.55 crore, was initiated soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in February 2024. All construction and upgrade works are now complete, and the station is ready for formal inauguration. Plans are also in place to construct a second entry point at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore.
The upgraded Begumpet station includes a new station building with a waiting hall and booking office, improved circulating area, modern toilets, and dedicated facilities for Divyangjan passengers. A 12-meter foot overbridge has been constructed, along with two lifts and four escalators to improve passenger movement. Additional features include platform resurfacing, enhanced platform shelters, a sewage treatment plant, a landscaped rock garden with a small water fountain, and façade lighting across the premises. Passenger-friendly signages have also been installed to improve navigation. Vishal provided further operational details, noting that Begumpet currently handles around 100 trains daily and sees a footfall of approximately 15,000 passengers.
Similar redevelopment work has been completed at Karimnagar and Warangal stations. At Karimnagar, Assistant Commercial Manager P. Shiva Prasad informed the media that the station has been modernized at a cost of ₹25.85 crore. The foundation stone for the project was laid in August 2023. The station now includes a new building with a waiting hall and booking office, modern toilets, improved platform shelters across all three platforms, resurfaced platforms, and Divyangjan facilities. A 12-meter foot overbridge with a ramp, two lifts, and two escalators have been added for better accessibility. A 115 kWp solar power plant has also been installed on the station building to support energy needs sustainably. Karimnagar station currently handles about 10 trains and around 1,000 passengers each day.
At Warangal station, Assistant Commercial Manager I.S.R. Murthy shared that the redevelopment was carried out at a cost of ₹25.41 crore, following the foundation stone ceremony in February 2024. The station, which serves nearly 22,000 passengers and 150 trains daily, now features upgraded waiting halls, improved circulating areas, new platform shelters, better flooring, and landscaped surroundings. A 12-meter foot overbridge has been built, along with three lifts and four escalators to enhance passenger movement. Façade lighting and signage improvements have also been completed.
In Telangana, 40 railway stations have been identified for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with an estimated investment of ₹2,750 crore. The goal is to modernize these stations with long-term infrastructure improvements to meet growing passenger needs.
