Begumpet Railway Station nears completion with 90% redevelopment, set to feature all-women staff

He also announced the establishment of the ‘KAVACH’ Research Institute in Secunderabad, focusing on the development of safety technology. Telangana has been allocated Rs. 5,337 crores for railway projects in the 2025-26 financial year, and 40 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, announced today, March 15, 2025, that 90% of the redevelopment works at Begumpet Railway Station have been completed. The station is being upgraded to airport-like standards and will soon be fully operated by an all-women staff.

The redevelopment project, which is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, has been carried out at an investment of Rs. 38 crores. It includes the construction of a new station building, improved platform surfaces, a 12-meter wide foot overbridge, escalators, lifts, booking counters, signages, and a new waiting hall.

Kishan Reddy, who inspected the Phase-I works at the station, was accompanied by Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway, and other senior railway officials. Speaking to the media, the Union Minister highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant changes are underway in the rail infrastructure of Telangana.

He further highlighted that the Begumpet Railway Station is being upgraded to meet airport-like standards, which will enhance passenger experience. The station’s upgrade is part of a larger effort to improve railway facilities across the state.

The Union Minister also informed that Telangana has been allocated Rs. 5,337 crores for railway projects in the 2025-26 financial year. A total of Rs. 39,300 crore is being invested in various railway projects in the state, which include electrification, new lines, and the doubling and tripling of tracks. Telangana’s railway network has now achieved 100% electrification.

In addition to the redevelopment of Begumpet, Kishan Reddy announced the establishment of the ‘KAVACH’ Research Institute in Secunderabad. The institute will focus on the development and deployment of the Kavach safety technology, which will soon be implemented across the national railway network. He also revealed that 40 railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with progress continuing swiftly.

Earlier, Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway, provided further details about the Begumpet station’s redevelopment. He highlighted that the station will be developed as an eco-friendly green station, featuring a water recycling plant to cater to the needs of greenery and sustainable practices.
