The state aims to surpass the 2023 Onam festival in Thrissur, Kerala, where 7,027 women performed the traditional Thiruvathira dance in synchrony. That performance, organised by women’s self-help group Kudumbashree, set the global record for the largest participation in a festive dance.

Director of culture and language department Enugu Narasimha Reddy said arrangements for the LB Stadium event were underway with multiple departments involved. “The LB Stadium event will be a great achievement for the state in the global arena,” he said.

Bathukamma celebrations are also scheduled at Bathukammakunta, Amberpet, on September 26, where Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is expected. Officials said the venue was significant as the lake was recently restored after years of encroachment threats.

Daily Bathukamma programmes are being held at Ravindra Bharati during Navratri. On September 30, an exhibition of Bathukammas will take place at Amraveerula Deepam opposite the Secretariat, followed by a procession to Tank Bund.

At Nizam College, students and staff created a Bathukamma with flowers collected from the campus. Central zone DCP K Shilpavalli attended the event. College principal Prof A V Rajashekar said the programme brought the campus community together.

Across Hyderabad, Durga Puja pandals have included Bathukamma props. District collectorates have also organised celebrations. Despite rain, women continued to play Bathukamma with enthusiasm.
