Banjara Hills theft: Man used woman's disguise to rob friend house
Hyderabad: A man has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly stealing gold and cash from a friend’s house while disguised in women’s clothing to dodge police detection. The incident took place in the Uday Nagar area of Banjara Hills police station limits of Hyderabad commissionerate.
The accused, identified as Harshit, targeted the home of Y Shivraj, a resident of Uday Nagar, who is also his friend. The theft occurred on September 16, while Shivraj and his family were away in Nizamabad visiting a relative.
Theft during a family visit
According to the complainant Y Shivraj, on Sunday, 14th September 2025, his family travelled to Nizamabad at around 8:00 AM to visit his daughter-in-law, who had recently given birth.
Yenugunday Shivraj returned to his home on September 16 at approximately 5:00 PM after visiting family in Nizamabad. He discovered the main door lock was broken and the house had been ransacked. Items stolen included 55 grams of gold jewellery comprising chains, earrings, rings, a gold Gundla Mala, and a silver Kumkum Bharani, and Rs 1,10,500 in cash. Shivraj filed a complaint the same day.
CCTV reveals a disguise, leading to arrest
According to the Banjara Hills Police, Shivraj returned home at approximately 5:00 PM to find his main door lock broken and his wardrobe ransacked. He immediately discovered that valuables, including approximately 55 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 1,10,500 in cash, were missing.
Based on the complaint, Banjara Hills police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Details of the stolen items include a collection of specific gold chains, earrings, rings, a silver Kumkum Bharani, and a significant sum of cash.
The investigation by Banjarahills police officials, who examined CCTV footage from the area, revealed that the perpetrator was a person dressed in traditional women's attire entering and leaving the vicinity.
Police identified the individual as Harshit, an acquaintance of Shivraj. Investigation revealed Harshit was familiar with the family’s absence and used a disguise to dodge police detection. He has since been taken into custody. Further investigation is underway.
