Hyderabad: As part of its land acquisition process for the expansion of roads around the congested KBR Park area the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued notices to actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, Congress leader K. Jana Reddy, and several other property owners.

On Saturday, residences of Balakrishna and Jana Reddy and others were marked by officials as the civic body is taking up these road widening works under Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project package. The officials may acquire 20 feet from Balakrishna’s property while 30 feet from Jana Reddy’s residence. Other property owners in the neighbourhood will also lose portions of their properties.

The civic body is planning to carry out the expansion works on Road No. 12, Banjara Hills junction near Virinchi Hospital, and Jubilee Hills Check Post through the KBR Park area. It has allocated Rs. 150 crore for the road widening works on a 6.5-km stretch under this project.

Elevated Corridors near KBR park

The heavy traffic road network around the KBR park has a width of 50 to 100 feet. The civic body has proposed to expand the width to 100-130 feet to address the traffic flow issues. A GHMC town planning official said 306 properties will be affected under the project and the officials have completed the acquisition of 87 of them.

The KBR park is set to get elevated corridors as GHMC has set aside Rs. 210 crore to construct a first-level, one-way flyover at the NFCL Junction in Banjara Hills and a three-lane, unidirectional underpass at the TV9 Junction.

Recently, Principal Secretary of the State Municipal and Urban Development Department M. Dana Kishore had directed the officials to fast-track the work under the H-CITI project to ease traffic congestion in the city.
