Hyderabad: Bachupally police have arrested two individuals, Ongolu Ramesh Babu (27) and Chandramolu Gundappa (24), in connection with the theft of six motorcycles. The stolen bikes, worth around Rs 4 lakhs, were recovered on February 2, 2025. One more accused, identified as P. Narsimha, is still absconding.

The incident traces back to January 23, 2025, when a complainant, K. Mahesh, an IT employee from Kousalya Colony, Bachupally, posted an advertisement on OLX to sell his Suzuki Access bike. Mahesh received a call from an interested buyer who asked to see the bike in person. When Mahesh met the buyer at his home, the suspect took the bike for a test ride and fled.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under Cr. DSI Chandrasekhar took up No. 59/2025 and the investigation. While efforts were ongoing, the crime staff of Bachupally Police Station reviewed CCTV footage on February 2 and identified the accused traveling on one of the stolen bikes. They were apprehended, and upon questioning, they confessed to stealing six bikes similarly, all of which were recovered.

The stolen bikes belonged to various areas, including Bachupally (3), Miyapur (1), Jagadgirigutta (1), and KPHB (1).

Ramesh Babu, a native of Santagudipadu village in Andhra Pradesh, had moved to Hyderabad in 2018 and worked in various small businesses, including running a biryani point and a mobile sales shop. After incurring losses, he returned to his village before coming back to Hyderabad in November 2024. He stayed in Suraram and occasionally worked as a bike taxi driver.

Gundappa, a local resident, became acquainted with Ramesh and, together with another associate, hatched a plan to steal bikes to resolve their financial issues. They would target bike sellers on OLX, meet them under the pretext of buying the bikes, and then flee with the vehicles after a test ride.

The accused have been arrested and will be produced before the court for judicial custody.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Balanagar DCP K. Suresh Kumar, with support from ACP Kukatpally Srinivas, Bachupally PS DI P. Yadaiah Goud, and the crime staff led by DSI D. Chandrashekar. The team will be suitably rewarded for their efforts.
