Hyderabad: A man was arrested in Bachupally on June 5 in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found in a travel bag abandoned in a secluded area.

The accused, identified as Vijay Toppa alias Wilson, 30, was apprehended by the Balanagar SOT Team and Bachupally Police at around 6:00 p.m. from Bowrampet, Bachupally. He was brought to the Bachupally Police Station, where he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

On the morning of June 4, a large travel bag was found abandoned in Vijaya Durga Owners Association Colony, Bachupally. Upon inspection, police discovered the body of an unidentified woman, estimated to be between 25–30 years of age. A murder case was registered at the Bachupally Police Station based on an initial complaint by the local watchman. The motive was initially unknown.

Balanagar DCP K. Suresh Kumar, IPS, along with Balanagar ADCP Satyanarayana, Kukatpally ACP Ravi Kiran Reddy, Bachupally Police, Dog Squad, Fingerprint Team, Clues Team, SOT Balanagar, and CCS Balanagar visited the scene. Five special teams were formed to identify and apprehend the accused.

The deceased was later identified as Tara Bohra, 33, a homemaker residing in Indiramma Colony, Bowrampet, Medchal–Malkajgiri District. Her permanent address is Baglung District, Nepal. The accused, Vijay Toppa alias Wilson, also resides in Indiramma Colony, Bowrampet, and hails from the same Baglung District in Nepal. He was employed as a chef at AR Fast Food Centre in Bachupally.

According to police, both the deceased and the accused were natives of Nepal who became acquainted through Facebook and developed a relationship. Although the woman was already married and had two children, she came to Hyderabad on April 15, 2025, and began living with the accused in a rented room.

On May 23, 2025, around 5:00 a.m., the couple had an argument regarding the woman's pregnancy. In a fit of rage, the accused strangled her with a nylon thread, causing her death. He then stuffed the body into a large travel bag, carried it on his shoulders, and dumped it in an isolated area of Vijaya Durga Owners Association Colony, Bachupally, before fleeing.

Using CCTV footage from nearby stores and other intelligence inputs, police tracked the movements of the accused. He was located and arrested on June 5 from Bowrampet, Bachupally. He is being produced before court today for judicial remand proceedings.

Seized property includes the mobile phones of the deceased and the accused, the travel bag used to conceal the body, and the nylon thread used in the crime.
