Auto driver sentenced to 1.5 years for killing pregnant woman in Hayathnagar accident

Hyderabad: On March 27, 2025, a 43-year-old auto driver was sentenced to one and a half years of rigorous imprisonment for causing the death of a pregnant woman due to reckless and intoxicated driving.

The incident occurred in the Hayathnagar Police Station jurisdiction, where the accused, Ooruganti Subhash (43), an auto driver from Kuntloor village, Hayathnagar, Ranga Reddy district, was driving under the alcohol influence. He struck a couple crossing the road, resulting in the death of the pregnant woman and her unborn child.

The case, registered under Cr. No. 542/2017, was heard in the Hon'ble PDJ I Court in LB Nagar. On March 27, 2024, the court convicted the accused under Section 304(II) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court sentenced him to one and a half years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 500 under Section 304(A) of the IPC. The prosecution was led by Additional Public Prosecutor K.V. Beena.
