“Your parcel is stuck at customs”: WhatsApp scam costs Asifnagar woman Rs. 2.4L
Hyderabad: A 27-year-old woman from Asifnagar, Hyderabad, has fallen victim to a WhatsApp-based financial fraud involving fake customs and courier demands. The scam began when she received a message from a person identifying himself as "Amanpreet UK France," who claimed to be sending her a parcel containing a diamond ring, gold, clothes, money, and shoes.
Shortly after, she was informed that the parcel had been seized at Mumbai Airport. Using this false claim, the fraudster requested her Aadhaar card and residential address, citing verification requirements.
The victim's details were then shared with an alleged "courier agent," who contacted her and demanded ₹16,000 for customs and tax clearance. The agent further threatened that the police and Income Tax Department would take action if the amount wasn't paid.
Fearing legal trouble, the victim made multiple payments, eventually transferring around ₹2.48 lakh. After receiving the money, the fraudsters stopped responding and cut off all communication. Realizing she had been cheated, the woman approached the Cyber Crime Police Station and filed a complaint.

- No customs or courier agency will demand money over WhatsApp or phone calls. Legitimate agencies do not threaten legal action or seek payments through informal channels.
- Never share Aadhaar, address, or personal details with unknown individuals. This can lead to identity theft and financial fraud.
- Avoid transferring money to unknown persons. Verify claims and identities through official channels.
- Stay informed and alert others. These scams rely on fear and manipulation. Reporting and awareness can help prevent further cases.
