Retweeting the complaint about the rumble strips on the “new flyover”, Hi Hyderabad, a prominent X account about the Hyderabad city and its happenings, has questioned the need for rumble strips on roads and flyovers.

Tagging the GHMC, the user behind the X account has demanded the civic body to explain the “science behind this.”

The comments section is filled with complaints against the rumble strips. Most of the commenters have stated that it is painful to drive on such stretches and requested the civic officials to consider removing them.

“Tie up with orthopaedic and spine hospitals,” commented a user.

“I think revenue generation...

More rumble stripes,
more back aches -> lead to hospitals
vehicles (2-wheelers especially) -> very prone to repairs…” wrote another.

“There was an article in eenadu mentioning how it's affecting bike Rider's spine,” a third user commented.

The authorities may have put those rumble strips to make drivers slow down and prevent road accidents, however, commuters are raising the health concerns associated with it. They claim that these strips not only damage the suspensions of their vehicles but also causing disc problems, spinal cord disorders, and other health issues due to the uneven surfaces of the rumble strips.

The commuters have also raised the issue of thickness of the rumble strips. They urged the GHMC to focus on laying speed breakers instead of rumble strips, suggesting that speed breakers would be more effective in controlling speeding vehicles without causing discomfort to drivers and riders.
