Secunderabad woman scammed of Rs. 1,07,621 after dialing fake Amazon customer care number
Hyderabad: A 60-year-old woman from Secunderabad fell victim to an online scam after contacting a fraudulent number she found on Google. The victim was waiting for a refund on a recent Amazon purchase and searched for the company's customer service number online.
The number led her to a man identifying himself as “Deepak Shukla,” who claimed to be an Amazon customer support agent. After convincing the woman that he needed remote access to her device to process the refund, the fraudster initiated a screen-sharing session.
During the session, the scammer gained access to the victim's Amazon account and Google Pay. He informed her that the refund couldn't be processed and requested her bank account details. Trusting the caller, the victim provided information for her State Bank of India (SBI) and Union Bank accounts. The fraudster then transferred ₹1,07,621 from both accounts. Realizing she had been scammed, the woman filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station.
