Actor Allu Arjun arrested by Chikkadapally Police over fatal stampede at Pushpa 2 premiere

Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Allu Arjun was arrested by Chikkadapally Police in connection with the stampede that occurred during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, RTC Crossroads, in Hyderabad on December 4, 2024. The incident resulted in the death of 39-year-old Revathi and injuries to her 13-year-old son.

Following the tragedy, three people, including the theatre’s owner and two managers, were arrested by Hyderabad Police.

A case was filed against Allu Arjun, his security team, the theatre owner, and others after the deceased woman's husband lodged a complaint. The case was registered under sections 105, 118(1) r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita Act.

The individuals arrested have been identified as M. Sandeep (37), co-owner of Sandhya 70mm Theatre, M. Nagaraju (51), senior manager, and Gandhakam Vijay Chander (53), in charge of the lower balcony. They were remanded to judicial custody after being presented in court.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when Allu Arjun arrived at the theatre with his security team. The large crowd that gathered to see the actor led to overcrowding in the lower balcony, where Revathi and her son became suffocated. Revathi was declared dead at Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, while her son is undergoing treatment.

The police stated that the theatre management did not take sufficient measures to control the crowd during the event.

Following the incident, Allu Arjun expressed condolences to the grieving family and announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the deceased woman's family.
