13-year-old opens 17th library at Serenity Model High School in Nagaram
Hyderabad: Akarshana Sathish, a 13-year-old philanthropist and 8th-grade student at The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, has inaugurated her 17th library at Serenity Model High School in Nagaram, Hyderabad. This initiative aims to empower and educate underprivileged children in the community by providing them with 425 new books.
Akarshana’s mission to establish libraries continues to thrive. She aims to complete 25 libraries by March 2025. To date, she has collected and donated over 11,000 books, generously contributed by her relatives, schoolmates, and Hyderabad citizens. Her efforts have significantly impacted the lives of countless children.
The opening of the 17th library highlights Akarshana’s strong belief in the importance of education and access to reading materials for all children. Her previous initiatives have garnered recognition from various dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President of India, both of whom have praised her dedication to this noble cause.
Serenity Model High School was excited to host this event, highlighting the importance of community involvement in promoting education.
Earlier, Akarshana opened her 16th library with 400 books at Sanchara Jathula Seva Bhavan in Neredmet, Secunderabad, on September 28, 2024, in the presence of P.V. Padmaja, Deputy Commissioner of Police – Malkajgiri, Rachakonda Commissionerate; Ravindranath, Member of Sewa Bharathi (Telangana); Rajender, Vibhag Secretary; T.V. Prafulla Chandra, Professional Assistant (Library); and Retd. English & Foreign Languages University member Shesha Sai is also from Sewa Bharathi (Telangana).
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Akarshana began collecting books from her neighbours, friends, and family. Her efforts resulted in establishing libraries across Hyderabad, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.
