After 20 years, Telangana CM to visit Osmania University- key projects inauguration
Hyderabad: In a historic moment for Osmania University, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will visit the campus on August 21, marking the first time a sitting Chief Minister has attended an official function at the university in twenty years. The visit assumes special significance as it comes nearly a decade after Telangana's formation.
Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram and Arts College Principal Prof. C. Kashim personally extended the invitation to the Chief Minister during a meeting at his residence on Sunday. University authorities are hopeful that the visit will strengthen ties with the state government and enhance campus infrastructure.
During his visit, the Chief Minister will inaugurate two newly constructed hostels built at a cost of Rs 80 crore that will accommodate 1,200 students. He will also lay the foundation stone for two additional hostels meant for 300 students, funded by the Tribal Welfare Department. These facilities will supplement the existing 25 hostels that currently house 7,223 students.
The Chief Minister will inaugurate a digital library reading room project worth Rs 10 crore. Then, he will give a keynote address at Tagore Auditorium on the topic 'Government's Plan for Changes in the Education Sector of Telangana.' The speech is expected to outline the state's vision for higher education reforms and will be attended by about 1,000 professors and students.
During the event, the Chief Minister is expected to launch two new initiatives - the ‘CM Research Fellowship’ program and a financial assistance scheme for students undertaking foreign academic trips. State Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar will accompany the Chief Minister during the visit.
The university administration is making elaborate arrangements for the high-profile visit, which has generated considerable excitement among students and faculty members. Many see this as a potential turning point for the 106-year-old institution that has played a pivotal role in Telangana's educational and political history.
