Wife accuses Abids police officer of mental agony, dowry harassment

Hyderabad: Sandhya, the wife of a serving Detective Inspector (DI) Kumbham Narasimha at the Abids Police Station in Hyderabad, has accused him of mental agony and harassment for additional dowry. The police have received complaints from both sides.

In her complaint, Sandhya alleged that DI Narasimha had been subjecting her to mental and physical torture for additional dowry. She further claimed that despite being married for 12 years, he had been pressuring her to bring more dowry and had even threatened to marry another woman if she failed to fulfill his demand.

Earlier, Narasimha lodged a complaint at Saroor Nagar Police Station, alleging that his wife Sandhya, had kidnapped their child and was trying to keep the child away from him. Acting on a complaint, the police team reached Sandhya’s hometown, Utkoor, and questioned her for over two hours. The probe led to tense moments between the police and Sandhya’s relatives.

Subsequently, Sandhya claimed that the investigators were harassing her in the name of questioning in the case. She stated that she had shown the child to the police personnel, however, they refused to leave her alone. She also alleged that her husband wants to take the child away from her.

The complainant admitted that there was a marital discord which had been ongoing for quite some time. She stated that a case related to the family dispute is pending in court. She demanded the police to take strict action against her husband.

Despite being married for so many years and having two children, Narasimha threatened to marry another woman if she failed to bring more dowry. Narasimha had previously taken Rs. 1.5 lakh and a tola of gold when their child was born, the complaint said.

Meanwhile, the Abids ACP Chandrasekhar confirmed that a case has been registered against Narasimha under Section 498A (harassment for dowry) at a police station in Sandhya’s hometown.
