From Hyderabad to Harvard to Google: Son honours IRS officer mother’s sacrifices
HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad-born professional, Abhijay Arora, recently took his mother to the Google office in San Francisco, fulfilling a long-cherished dream. In an emotional post, he said showing his mother his workplace was one of the most memorable days of his life.
A tribute to his mother’s sacrifices
Abhijay shared that his mother, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was the first in his family to clear the UPSC exam in 1998. Coming from a humble background, she studied under street lamps and relied on second-hand textbooks as her parents, who had migrated to India during the Partition, saved every rupee for her education.
He recalled how she supported him through every challenge — from waking up with him at 4 am during school to ensuring he had the best opportunities possible. “Whatever little I can offer in this life won’t do justice to your sacrifices, Mom,” he wrote.
From Hyderabad to Harvard and Google
Abhijay studied at Vidyaranya High School in Hyderabad before graduating with honours from Harvard Business School. His mother was in tears during his convocation, he said, seeing her son’s achievements after years of struggle.
He now works with Google in the United States and says he wants to “give back” by building “the largest free career community in the AI era,” opening his Harvard and Google network to young aspirants.

“Dreams do come true”
Abhijay said his journey was marked by failures before success arrived. “Times changed,” he wrote, adding that his mother’s resilience and belief kept him moving forward. “To those who dare to dream big — dreams do come true. Just don’t give up,” he concluded.
