Licensing system for hostels proposed at Cyberabad police coordination meeting

Hyderabad: A meeting was organised by the Cyberabad police with the managements of hostels to discuss and ensure security measures in hostels on Wednesday evening.

The meeting was chaired by Cyberabad police commissioner Avinash Mohanty and owners of 225 hostels from Madhapur and Balanagar zones in Cyberabad attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the police commissioner stated that the Cyberabad region has witnessed significant growth over the past two decades, and this momentum continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mohanty said both professionals and students prefer well-organised traffic and high-quality hostel facilities.

“Cyberabad has about 4,000 hostels equipped with cyber facilities. These hostels offer a range of budget-friendly to premium accommodations, primarily serving out-of-state residents,” said Avinash Mohanty.

At the meeting, a proposal was made to introduce a licensing system for hostels on par with other commercial establishments under city police regulations. There are also plans to float a centralised platform containing detailed information on hostel facilities, their availability, pricing, and amenities, to help employees make informed decisions about the accommodation available to them.

Later, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Gajarao Bhupal spoke about the significance of visitor logs. He
emphasised that the records of paying guests must be clear and updated.

“They should verify the background and behaviour of each resident and ensure that all guests adhere to the rules and regulations of hostels. The hostel owners must collect essential details,” Gajarao Bhupal stated.

He asked the hostel owners to monitor the paying guests’ daily schedules, including their office timings and routes they take to work to ensure their safety. In case of any medical emergency, they should immediately call an ambulance and arrange hospital admission.
