540 Indians, including 24 from Telangana, rescued from cyber scam compounds in Myanmar
Hyderabad: The Government of India has successfully facilitated the rescue of 540 Indian nationals who were trapped in cyber scam compounds in Myawaddy, Myanmar. These individuals were repatriated in two batches, with 283 in the first batch and 257 in the second, arriving in Delhi on March 10 and 11, 2025.
Among those rescued, 24 were from Telangana. Fourteen of them arrived in Hyderabad on March 11, 2025, as part of the first batch, while the remaining 10 returned the following day, on March 12, 2025.
Investigation and Arrests by TGCSB
Following the successful rescue, the Telangana State Cybercrime Bureau (TGCSB) launched an in-depth investigation, resulting in the registration of nine cases at various Cyber Crime Police Stations across the state. The investigation has led to the identification of 15 agents and mediators who were involved in the scam. Of these, eight individuals have been arrested, while the others are still on the run. Five of the suspects are believed to be abroad, and authorities are actively working to apprehend them.
Public Appeal: Be Cautious of Fraudulent Job Offers Abroad
Authorities have issued a public appeal urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when considering overseas job offers, particularly those promising high salaries with minimal qualifications. They recommend verifying job offers through official channels, such as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) at emigrate.gov.in, before making any decisions. Additionally, travelers should ensure that they receive a written agreement from the foreign employer before leaving and should be wary of job descriptions that seem vague or too good to be true.
Anyone who suspects they have been targeted by fraudulent overseas job offers is encouraged to report the incident immediately to the helpline number 1930 or via cybercrime.gov.in.
Key Accused Arrested
Among the individuals arrested in connection with the scam are Allepu Venkatesh (34) from Jagtial, Challa Mahesh @ Mallikarjun (37) from Jagtial, Mohammed Jalal (33) from Falaknuma, Hyderabad, Bomma Vasanth Kumar (32) from BN Reddy Nagar, Hyderabad, and Dasari Eknath Goud (29) from Badangpet, Hyderabad. Additionally, Katanguri Sai Kiran (27) from Vemulawada, H Basheer Ahmed (40) from Bahadurpura, Hyderabad, and Gajula Abhishek (23) from Bandlaguda, Nagole, have also been arrested in connection with the scam.
