Hyderabad: On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the Hyderabad Excise Enforcement Police arrested five individuals and filed cases against eight people involved in a liquor adulteration operation. The accused were refilling premium liquor bottles with cheaper alcohol and selling them at inflated prices, reportedly earning lakhs of rupees.
Excise Enforcement Police CI Chandrashekhar and Ameerpet CI Banoth Patel, along with their teams, conducted raids in the Krishna Nagar area of Ameerpet. During the operation, nine bottles of premium liquor without duty stamps were discovered in the bags of two suspects, Manish and Pawan, who were subsequently arrested.
Further investigation led the police to a house in Sai Nagar, Ayyappa Society, where three additional individuals, Rudrapatra Routh, Satyaprakash Routh, and Rinkujan, all from Odisha, were found to be involved in the same illegal activity.
The police seized 14 bottles of premium liquor, 63 empty bottles, caps, boxes, and other equipment used for refilling. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs. 8 lakhs, along with five mobile phones and a scooter.
The arrested suspects admitted to refilling expensive liquor bottles with low-quality alcohol and selling them at a profit. For instance, a bottle priced at Rs. 25,000 was sold for Rs. 16,000.
Assistant Commissioner Anil Kumar Reddy advised consumers to be cautious when purchasing liquor at unusually low prices, as it may be counterfeit. He urged buyers to purchase only from licensed stores.
The Excise Enforcement Directorate, led by VB Kamalasan Reddy, praised the team for their successful operation.
