272 drunk drivers caught in Cyberabad: Young riders dominate offender list
Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police in the weekend-special drunk driving enforcement drive nabbed 272 offenders who were driving the vehicles in an inebriated state.
According to the latest data released by Cyberabad Traffic Police, the vehicle-wise breakdown of the cases is as follows, Two-wheelers 227, Three-wheelers 15, Four-wheelers 29, and one Heavy Vehicle.
Further offenders were categorized based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level, 253 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 35 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml, 16 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, and 3 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml. All the offenders will be produced before the Court.
Miyapur leads with 55 cases
Further traffic police station-wise breakup shows Miyapur stood first with 55 cases, followed by Shamshabad (27), Balanagar (24), Jeedimtla and Alwal with 20 cases each. Most of the offenders who were caught are aged between 21-30 years, with 118 offenders, followed by 31-40 years (90 offenders).
Cyberabad Police reiterate that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. If anyone is found to be driving in an inebriated condition and causes a fatal accident, such individuals will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder). The maximum punishment under this section is 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
In the last week, a total of 299 drunk and drive cases were disposed of in the courts, in which 277 persons were penalized for fine amounts, and 22 persons were sentenced to jail.
The details of jail sentences by duration are as follows 21 persons were sentenced to 2 days' imprisonment, further, one person was sentenced to three days imprisonment. And 34 persons were assigned social service as part of the penalty.
