1318 Drunk Driving cases in Cyberabad: 38 offenders jailed, 31 given community service
Hyderabad: In this month-long enforcement drive of Cyberabad Traffic Police resulted in a total of 1318 cases booked for drunk driving, of which 38 persons were sentenced to jail.In addition to that Cyberabad Traffic Police weekend enforcement drive resulted in the apprehension of 121 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
In the special operation by Cyberabad police, aimed at curbing drunk driving, nabbed 121 offenders including 71 two-wheeler riders, 43 four-wheeler drivers, 4 three-wheeler operators, and 2 heavy vehicle drivers.
According to the official data revealed by the Cyberabad Traffic Police, as per the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) tests categorized into three groups, 106 had BAC levels between 35–200 mg/100 ml, 8 recorded 201–300 mg/100 ml, and 6 showed dangerously high levels of 301–500 mg/100 ml.
The details of jail sentences by duration are as follows, 30 offenders were sent to two day imprisonment. Further, two persons each were handed one day, three-day, four-day, and seven-day prison sentences. Alongside these custodial punishments, 31 individuals were penalized with mandatory social service as part of their sentences.
Cyberabad Police warned that drunk driving leading to fatal accidents could invoke Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder), punishable with up to 10 years’ imprisonment and fines.
Further, Cyberabad Traffic Police urged all citizens to drive responsibly and ensure road safety for all.All offenders will be produced before the court, facing legal consequences.
